Welcome to Department of Physics

Physics (from Ancient Greek, phusikḗ (epistḗmē) "knowledge of nature", from phúsis "nature) is the natural science that involves the study of matter and its motion and behavior through space and time.

Departmental Profile

The department of Physics was instituted from the inception of the Science department in June 2010. Physics as principal subject was started from June 2012. It offers courses at the Undergraduate levels. The Undergraduate centre offers Material Science, Nanotechnology, Lasers as a elective courses at UG level. Presently department has 3 full time members for UG teaching.

Salient Features of the Department

The department has 1 well equipped and dedicated laboratory.
Faculty members are actively involved in syllabus forming and restructuring at University level for Undergraduate.
Research carried out by faculty members are published in National and International journals, seminars and conferences.
Emphasis on student centered teaching learning process
Availability of computer lab with access to the internet
Departmental library
Activities like poster presentation, quiz competition to create and nurture interest in physics
Department always encourage students to participate in Avishkar competition

The seminar on, “Bio-fuels” was organized by department of Physics and delivered by Dr. Renu Singh (Scientist at IARI, Delhi) on Sep.2015.
Poster presentation competition was organized by Physics Department on Dec. 2015.

Study Tour was conducted to update information on the subject with exposure to variegated topics for discussion helped to broaden the outlook of T.Y.B.Sc. Students. T.Y.B.Sc. students participated in Raman Memorial Conference 2017 (Topic: Celebrating the gravity of Gravitational Waves) organized by Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University on 03-04 March 2017.
Program on financial literacy and consumer awareness was conducted by Department of Physics on 11 Feb. 2017.
